Gov. DeSantis declares war on what he deems Joe Biden\u2019s \u2018Ministry of Truth\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Williston Friday, Gov. Ron DeSantis<\/strong> took aim at the Joe Biden<\/strong> administration\u2019s effort to have the Department of Homeland<\/a><\/strong> Security<\/strong><\/a> educate the public about disinformation, arguing the new \u201cDisinformation Governance Board\u201d is akin to George Orwell\u2019s<\/strong> \u201cMinistry of Truth.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n DeSantis said the effort really amounts to a war against conservative dissent against a \u201cdecaying and discredited ruling elite in this country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cYou cannot have a Ministry of Truth in this country,\u201d DeSantis said. \u201cWe\u2019re not going to let Biden get away with this one. We will be fighting back.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Governor referred to the proposed bureau as a \u201cbelated April Fool\u2019s Joke,\u201d but one with a malign intent: to \u201cstifle dissent.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWhat they want to do is they want to be able to put out false narratives without people being able to speak out and fight back,\u201d DeSantis said. \u201cThey want to be able to say things like \u2018Russian collusion\u2019 and perpetuate hoaxes and have people like us be silenced.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Governor called attention to the appointed leader of the agency, Wilson Center<\/a><\/strong> disinformation fellow Nina Jankowicz<\/strong><\/a>, as an \u201cadvocate for COVID lockdowns who herself has put out disinformation about the Hunter Biden<\/strong> tapes, who supported Russian collusion conspiracy theories.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThis is not acceptable, and in Florida we\u2019re not going to have it,\u201d DeSantis said, going on to add that the \u201cpublic is sick of this.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to Homeland Security Today<\/strong><\/a>, the so-called Disinformation Governance Board will work to counter misinformation and disinformation. The Associated Press notes<\/strong><\/a> that work will take many forms, ranging from scrutinizing messaging received by undocumented immigrants crossing the Mexican-U.S. border to election disinformation, such as that from Russia. However, conservatives warn<\/a><\/strong> the office will be used to chill internal dissent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe reject this bureau in the state of Florida,\u201d DeSantis added. \u201cWe believe it\u2019s essential that individual Floridians and Americans be able to speak out against false narratives trying to be jammed down our throats by this regime.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n DeSantis also called attention to the President seeming less than robust to some observers, describing Biden as \u201cfloundering on the world stage,\u201d and \u201cshaking hands with the air.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIt\u2019s sad,\u201d DeSantis said over laughter from the crowd, \u201cbut it\u2019s also negatively impacting people\u2019s lives.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Gov.
