By Ketrin Jochecov\u00e1<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n U.S. President Donald Trump invited Russian leader Vladimir Putin to join his \u201cBoard of Peace\u201d to oversee next steps in Gaza, the Kremlin said Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIndeed, President Putin also received an offer through diplomatic channels to join this Peace Council. We are currently studying all the details of this proposal,\u201d Putin\u2019s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters in a media briefing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe hope for a contact with the American side so that we can clarify all the details,\u201d he added<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Trump announced the establishment of the board<\/a> \u2014 which he touted as \u201cthe Greatest and Most Prestigious Board ever assembled at any time, any place\u201d<\/a> \u2014 on Friday as a key part of his 20-point plan to end the war between Israel and Hamas. The committee, chaired by Trump, will oversee the transitional governance of Gaza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The U.S. embassy in Brussels did not immediately respond to questions about the invitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Putin, for his part, has spent the last four years waging a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which has killed thousands of civilians, and demolished towns and cities. Trump also invited Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, was has supported the Kremlin\u2019s war on Ukraine, to join the peace board, state media in Minsk reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Invitations to join the board were also addressed to countries including Argentina, Egypt, Albania, India and Turkey, among others. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has also received an invitation, as have Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Those who want a permanent membership beyond the three-year term will have to cough up $1 billion, Bloomberg first reported<\/a>. Canada will join but won\u2019t pay for the permanent seat, Carney said<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n So far, the leaders of Hungary, Kazakhstan<\/a> and Vietnam<\/a> have accepted the invitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cHungary\u2019s efforts for peace are being recognised. President Trump has invited Hungary to join the work of The Board of Peace as a founding member. We have, of course, accepted this honourable invitation,\u201d Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orb\u00e1n said<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n An aide to Poland\u2019s president Karol Nawrocki said Monday that he had also been invited and was considering his response, but pointed to Putin\u2019s inclusion, noting that he was among leaders \u201cseen at odds\u201d with the Polish president.
