Mexican cartel operatives are understood to have joined Ukraine’s frontline so that they can learn advanced drone training to deploy against rivals and US security forces back in their homeland.

Ukraine‘s counterintelligence service confirmed it was currently investigating the potential infiltration of its International Legion, a military unit composed of foreign volunteers, by Latin American drug cartels.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), alongside military intelligence, has launched the joint mission following earlier warnings from Mexico’s National Intelligence Center of the intent of some of the Mexican recruits.

Shortly after returning to office in January, President Trump designated cartels as Foreign Terrorist Organizations, adding, “the Cartels have engaged in a campaign of violence and terror throughout the Western Hemisphere that has not only destabilized countries with significant importance for our national interests but also flooded the United States with deadly drugs, violent criminals, and vicious gangs.”

FPV drones were used in coordinated strikes against the Russian Air Force’s long-range assets across six air bases – Belaya, Dyagilevo, Ivanovo, Severny, Olenya, and Ukrainka.

Other South American countries have taken an interest in the probe, with Colombian nationals being included, which has posed concerns about Ukraine becoming increasingly used as a training ground for criminal activity.
